Tour Siena and San Gimignano (9 hours)

After meeting at the port we will drive towards Siena trough the expressway and some of the picturesque Tuscan countryside. We will stop at Montegufoni Castle for a quick visit and to enjoy a unique view overlooking the typical gentle hills with vineyards and olive groves. We will reach the center of Siena through the impressive Roman Gate and start to explore this masterpiece of Medieval Art and Architecture: Piazza del Campo with its particular slope shape where the famous horse race “Il Palio” take place. The square is completely surrounded by beautiful palaces and dominated by the Torre del Mangia recently reopened to the public. The gothic Cathedral (Duomo) once considered the most important monument of Christianity with its treasures, and the emotion to walk trough the typical alleys and little squares sure to discover something interesting just behind the corner. We will then approach S.Gimignano through a dirt road from where you can admire a unique panorama of this “Medieval Manhattan” and take the best photographs of its towers. Your walking tour will start from S.Giovanni Gate and continue through the only main street with historical palaces, churches and typical little shops offering leather & pottery goods together with local products. Finally we will drive back to the ship.
